About Sujoy

Sujoy Roy is the UK's first and most successful professional video gamer. Sujoy now works on various gaming and esports projects.

Having earned a Masters degrees in Physics from Cambridge University and worked for JP Morgan in Wall Street, New York, Sujoy joined the pro-gaming circuit with good credentials, some real-world savvy and an analytical mind. These were put to good use in 2000 and 2001, where he generated incredible exposure for his gaming sponsors and a substantial collection of media clippings.

In the intervening years Sujoy turned his hand to event-organisation, creating the UK's biggest gaming events featuring thousands of pounds in prize money and competitors from all over the world. Sujoy also founded and built one of the most successful online esports communities, ESReality. When the Championship Gaming Series was launched in 2007, Sujoy managed the London franchise (called London Mint) and led them to a victory in the UK finals against rivals Birmingham Salvo. The CGS shows were broadcast over Christmas 2007 on Sky One.

Also in 2007, Sujoy launched Gamerbase; a high-tech gaming entertainment company with its first venue in the London Trocadero. This high profile venture combined the best in new technology and the latest games to create a unique destination in Central London. Gamerbase was subsequently acquired in October 2008 by international entertainment retail chain, HMV. Sujoy joined HMV to manage the expansion of Gamerbase through the network of HMV stores in the UK and Ireland. This has included three further Gamerbase venues in Manchester, Glasgow and Edinburgh, and eighty smaller gaming console pods in HMV stores across the UK and Ireland.
